Senior Congress leader and former MLA from Yadgir A.B. Maalakaraddi has said that AICC president Rahul Gandhi is not yet ready to be elected to the post of Prime Minister as he doesn’t have “political maturity”.

He was talking to media persons at his residence in Kalaburagi on Monday.

This statement came on the same day when Mr. Gandhi was addressing a Congress Parivartana Rally in that city.

“Mr. Gandhi should develop political maturity like his mother Sonia Gandhi did when she was the chairperson of AICC, as he has to take a big responsibility of leading the country,” Dr. Maalakaraddi said. To speculation on his political career, Dr. Maalakaraddi said that he was not thinking of quitting the Congress. “Due to age factor, I cannot actively participate in election rallies. However, I will work on the party’s behalf but not for any candidate,” he said and added that he feels that MP M. Mallikarjun Kharge still considers him as one of the senior leaders of the party.

“Being a citizen of this country, I appreciate the administration provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.
