Prahlad Modi, brother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and his family members were injured when the car in which they were travelling met with an accident on the Mysuru-Nanjangud highway on Tuesday.

The Mysuru South police, which confirmed the incident, said the car passengers were shifted to a hospital and described the injuries as minor in nature without divulging any other details. The injured were shifted to JSS Hospital.

It is learnt that Prahlad Modi was travelling to Bandipur along with son Mehul Prahalad Joshi, his wife, and their child when the vehicle hit a road divider at Kadakola close to Nanjangud, around 2 p.m.

Mysuru MP Mr. Pratap Simha, who called on the injured, later told The Hindu that there was no cause for worry and Mr. Modi, his son and daughter-in-law suffered minor bruises. However, Mr. Prahlad Modi’s grandchild suffered a fracture, he added. The accident took place when the driver felt drowsy and hit the divider, Mr.Simha added.

Meanwhile, Mysuru SP Ms. Seema Latkar and other senior police officials visited the accident spot and took stock of the incident. The vehicle in which Mr. Prahlad Modi was travelling suffered major dents in the front and was mangled.

Later, Suttur Seer Sri Shivaratri Deshikendra Swamiji also visited the hospital and inquired about Mr. Modi and his family members who were recuperating. He later said they were all cheerful and there was no cause for worry. They have suffered minor injuries and have come out of the initial shock, the seer added. Mysuru South Police have registered a case and investigating.
