Belagavi city has been put on high alert following a general instruction from the State police.

Police Commissioner B.S. Lokesh Kumar issued the alert on Saturday to all police stations and instructed officers to put up vigil at important public places and installations.

Police presence has been scaled up at the Suvarna Soudha, Sambra airport, city railway station, bus stand, religious centres, and places frequented by VIPs. The police will carry out random checks in hotels and other places.

Meetings

Senior officers will hold meetings with businessmen and owners of places that attract large crowds.

The management of hotels have been asked not to let out rooms to anyone who does not produce proof of identity. “There is no need to panic. But if residents notice any suspicious movement or activities, then they should inform the police. We will verify all such information and take necessary measures,” Mr. Lokesh Kumar told The Hindu .
