The police are drawing flak from people of Shirakol village in Navalgund takul of Dharwad district for being “lax” in their handling of the death of two boys, Nagaraj Shirasangi (13) and Akash Shirasangi (6), suspected to have been sacrificed.

“The police did not even consider the case seriously. They did not get any clue even after the children went missing last month,” said Kallanagouda Patil, a village resident, while the inconsolable parents were not in a position to respond to queries from mediapersons.

The police have booked cases under Cr.PC Section 174 (when there is any doubt regarding the cause of death), while the village residents believe it is possibly a case of human sacrifice.

A large number of people from the surrounding areas gathered after the news of the children’s murder spread. However, the manner in which the bodies were found, with head and limbs missing, has led people in the village to believe that it could be a case of human sacrifice.

“Police have intensified the investigation to unearth the truth,” said Superintendent of Police Vamsi Krishna. Later, the bodies were sent to the government hospital for post-mortem.
