Poet worried about growing intolerance in society

Poet, writer, and filmmaker Prathibha Nandakumar expressed concern over growing intolerance in society and observed that the divide between “the left and the right” had also seeped into literature, especially poetry.

Polarisation and political correctness have become the order of the day in all walks of life, she said.

‘Rare thing’

However, delivering the keynote address at the poetry rendering session of the 84th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, Ms. Nandakumar said tolerance has become a rare thing in the society.

Reacting to recent tendency of misinterpreting ideas such as Indianness and Hindutva, she criticised the writings of a section of writers.

Ms. Nandakumar read Kavige Besaravagide (poet frustrated) to depict the present situation of intolerance and gender discrimination in the society.
