Mysuru records 83.82 per cent voter turnout in GP polls

A total of 11,54,257 persons out of the eligible 13,77,079 voters cast their votes during the elections to gram panchayats in Mysuru district on Friday.

An official release from the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru district put the voter turnout at 83.82 per cent.

Polling was held to elect 4,487 members in a total of 266 gram panchayats in Mysuru district. A total of 13,339 contenders were in the fray.

The highest turnout in the district was recorded in K.R. Nagar taluk where 87.28 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise. Mysuru taluk recorded the least percentage of 79.88 per cent of polling. Nanjangud, T Narsipur, Hunsur, Periyapatna and H D Kote recorded a voter turnout of 82.81, 83.68, 86.55, 86.17 and 83.67 respectively.

Repolling

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru C Shikha, who is also the district election officer, has ordered re-poll in three polling booths in the district, where there was confusion over the ballot papers.

Ballot papers of a different constituency had been sent to Mosambayanahalli polling booth in Kiralu gram panchayat in Mysuru taluk and Hemmaragala booth in Hemmaragala-2 gram panchayat in Nanjangud taluk.

In Hura polling booth in Hura-1 gram panchayat in Nanjangud taluk, there was an error in the printing of the symbol of a candidate.

Hence, re-poll will be held in the three polling booths on Sunday.
