The Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University will offer four-month certificate courses in three disciplines at its Mandya Study Centre that is scheduled to be inaugurated here on June 11. Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, Vice-Chancellor Sarvamangala Shankar said the university will offer courses in Sugama Sangeetha, Ranga Sangeetha and Gamaka Vachana.

Housing Minister M.H. Ambareesh will inaugurate the Mandya Study Centre, while MP C.S. Puttaraju will release four books on the occasion. The function will be held at the Officers’ Club near Deputy Commissioner’s office, she said.

Regional Centre

The Music university is already offering BA, MA courses and Ph.D., M.Phil and D.Litt. It has plans to offer B.Ed and M.Ed courses and start a Regional Centre in Mandya.

The university required a big campus in Mandya and hence had demanded 50 acres of land. Responding to the request, the district administration has allotted land near the sericulture farm near H. Malligere in Mandya taluk.

The State government had sanctioned 100 acres of land near Varuna, eight acres near Sathagalli and 68 acres near Hunsur in Mysuru district.

“We are planning to establish ‘Gurukul’ kind of campus near Hunsur,” she added.

According to Ms. Shankar, the varsity will in course of time establish a manuscript library, hi-tech audio-video studio, digitise books on music and start offering courses online. To implement all the proposals, the varsity has sought Rs. 150 crore from the State government, she added.

The function will be at the Officers’ Club tomorrow
