Morning walkers performed yoga outside the Deputy Commissioner’s residence here on Tuesday morning after they found the Barid Shahi Park locked.
As many as 20 people sat on the ground outside Durga Darshini, the Deputy Commissioner’s official residence, and performed ‘asanas’ and ‘pranayama’. Bidar police removed the protesters, warned them and released them in an hour.
The park is built around the Barid Shahi tombs on Nanded Road, a monument protected by the Archaeological Survey of India. It was developed by the district administration and the Forest Department in 1990.
The Department of Horticulture manages the park. It has varieties of plants and a rock garden curated by sculptor B.T. Solabakkanavar.
The park has been closed to public from June 6 to allow NCC cadets prepare for the International Yoga Day celebrations. The management of the park was affected after Neelanjan Abraham, Assistant Horticulture Officer in-charge of the park, tried to commit suicide two weeks ago. He is recovering now.
Siddu Baragimath, Deputy Director, Horticulture, said an officer was asked to take charge of the park.
