A.S. Patil, MLA, demanded a 30-day special legislature session in Belagavi to take comprehensive stock and expeditiously implement decisions so as to bridge the gaps in regional imbalance soon.

He said a new organisation — ‘Swabhimani Uttar Kannda Yuva Kannadigar Pade’ — would be launched to create awareness on developmental needs of the region. The members of the front would meet and interact with the public to mount pressure on the government to effectively address the grievances of the people of the region. Talking to presspersons here recently, he said that the people felt that they did not get their due share in the development process of the State.

During the last Winter Session of the Legislature held in Belagavi, all the legislators of the region had vehemently urged for the shifting of 18 departments to the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, the second Secretariat of the State in the city. Also, the government was urged to announce a Rs.30,000-crore package to complete all pending works under the Upper Krishna Project and various other necessary developments. But, the government chose to ignore these demands, he said. People were also unhappy with Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister H.K. Patil for stalling the implementation of the benefits under the Article 371(J), he said.
