Minister tells village residents to clear power dues

Energy Minister D.K. Shivakumar has instructed residents of Gejjalagere and 42 other villages, who have not paid electricity bills for the last three decades, to clear the dues.He conducted a meeting with officials of various departments here on Monday evening.

The defaulters should clear the dues; if they don’t, the CESC could even disconnect power supply, he warned.

According to him, the CESC would start installing meters at residences in the 43 villages from October 15.

Mr. Shivakumar also instructed farmers to regularise their irrigation pump sets.

P.M. Narendra Swamy, K.S. Puttannaiah and K.C. Narayana Gowda, MLAs, B. Ramakrishna, MLC, Deputy Commissioner M.N. Ajay Nagabhushan and CESC officials were present.

Residents of Gejjalagere and surrounding villages had stopped paying water and electricity bills after two farmers were killed in a police firing 33 years ago. According to CESC, the electricity bills due from the villagers is around Rs. 6 crore.

The Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation will start installing meters at residences in 43 villages from October 15. If defaulters fail to clear the bills, then measures may be initiated to disconnect power supply.
