: The Manipal University will launch North-East Studies Centre with a mandate to conduct research studies on important themes impacting north-east society, economy, polity, culture, dialects and inherent internal contradictions, here on Wednesday.

A release here on Tuesday said the Centre will provide a platform for scholars to exchange views on the challenges being confronted by the North East region in a free and frank manner. The Centre will organise special lectures and conduct workshops on North-East affairs at frequent intervals.

It will make a modest attempt to build the critical mass of young researchers on the North-East region. It will promote students of North-East India and provide an opportunity for them to visit Manipal University and do internship in the areas of their interests.

The Centre will work under the auspices of the Department of Geopolitics and International Relations.

Monish Tourangbam a native of Manipur and a faculty at the Department of Geopolitics and International Relations, has been appointed as the Coordinator of the Centre, the release said.
