Minister for Forests B. Ramanath Rai on Monday informed the Legislative Assembly that 129 people had lost their lives following attacks by wild animals in the last three years in the State.
Forty-one people lost their lives in 2010-11, 22 in 2011-12, 50 in 2012-13 and 16 so far this year, he said in reply to a question from C.T. Ravi (BJP).
Statistics showed that 520 people were injured by wild animals during this period, and the attacks had left 51 others permanently disabled.
In the same vein, 203 wild animals were killed in the same period, the Minister said in a written reply.
Idols
Minister for Home K.J. George said the police recovered three idols stolen from the Jain shrine in Moodabidri from Odisha and two persons have been arrested.
A total of 15 idols were stolen and efforts are on to find the others, he told Sunil Kumar of the BJP.
78 projects
Minister for Water Resources M.B. Patil said the government has decided to complete works on 78 long-pending irrigation projects in the next five years at a cost of Rs. 45,274.35 crore.
The total irrigation potential of the State is 36.69 lakh hectares while irrigated areas is 27.43 lakh hectares. The remaining 9.26 lakh hectares would be irrigated in the next five years, he told to BJP floor leader Jagadish Shettar.
