Positioning its properties as the “best budget hotel” options, the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) has thrown open massive discounts to the summer season holiday-goers, especially in places that do not see high footfall during the season.

The corporation has announced discounts ranging from 10% to 50% across its 18 properties, including the Ooty property. The discounts will be higher during the weekdays.

Though there is almost nil discount at properties in popular destinations, mostly in south Karnataka, those in north Karnataka are being offered with a half price cut.

Occupancy rates

“Very few people visit north Karnataka during this season. Occupancy rates at our properties are usually 15% to 20% during this time, which is why we are offering discounts up to 50% to improve this. On the other hand, our hotels at Madikeri, Mysuru and Srirangapatna usually see high occupancy rates,” said KSTDC managing director Kumar Pushkar.

“The last few months have not been good for us. After the unrest over the Cauvery water dispute, demonetisation also hit us. We were affected for almost four months in a row last year from September,” he said.

To bring people back to their properties and make up for the poor show the last big holiday season, the KSTDC has also tried improving their service standards, he said.

“We are trying to ensue that people get a taste of the local cuisines, and are also arranging for cultural programmes at some of these venues,” Mr. Pushkar added.

Now, you can stay on Nandi Hills

Among Bengalureans’ favourite short getaways, Nandi Hills is now more than just that. The KSTDC begun operations at its new property on Nandi Hills this week, offering 12 rooms at around ₹2,000 a night each for visitors to enjoy the sunrise, sunset and the general ambience for longer than just a day.
