A total of 4,156 candidates, of the 97,878 who had registered for Karnataka State Eligibility Test (KSET) 2014, have become eligible for recruitment as lecturers and assistant professors in universities and colleges in Karnataka.
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mysore K.S. Rangappa, who is also Chairman of the KSET Centre, told reporters here on Friday that 19,517 candidates, of the 81,778 who appeared for KSET, in 32 subjects on November 30, 2014, had obtained the minimum cut-off marks in each paper and qualified for Stage 2.
“A merit list was prepared for all Stage 1 qualified candidates and top 15 per cent of the candidates were chosen in each subject and in each categoryand they will receive the KSET eligibility certificate,” he said. The eligibility certificate would have lifetime validity, he added.
B. Basavalingu, co-ordinator of KSET, told The Hindu that the results would be announced by February 24 on the websitehttp://kset.uni-mysore.ac.in/
He said eligibility percentage had dipped from 7.22 in KSET 2013 to 5.08 in KSET 2014. When asked for the reason for this, he pointed out to the eligibility percentage in Mathematical Science paper, which was an abysmal 0.27. “Only 12 candidates, of the total 5,234 registered, had become eligible,” he said.
“Last year, the eligibility percentage in Mathematics was better as the candidates answered Mathematics and Statistics in separate papers. But, in view of objections from the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Mathematical Science paper had both Mathematics and Statistics,” he said.
Maximum number of candidates had become eligible in Kannada followed by History and Life Science. While 983 candidates, of the registered 14,183, had become eligible in Kannada, 540 and 366 candidates had become eligible in History and Life Sciences respectively, he said.
While candidates who appeared for the test in Bengaluru nodal centre topped in nine subjects, those who appeared in Mysuru centre aced in eight subjects. Dharwad centre candidates topped in six subjects while candidates in Kalaburagi and Mangaluru topped in three subjects each. Candidates in Belagavi, Vijayapura and Shivamogga aced in one subject each.
