All six ULBs declared open defecation-free towns
Kolar has achieved the distinction of being the first district in the State in connection with construction of personal toilets in urban areas under Swachch Bharat Abhiyan. And all the six urban local bodies have been declared open defecation-free areas.
Deputy Commissioner K.V. Thrilokchandra announced this at a function to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Park on Monday.
As many as 8,500 personal toilets and community toilets with 450 seats in lieu of 1,296 personal toilets due to lack of space for them have been constructed under the jurisdiction of six urban local bodies in the district viz., Kolar, Kolar Gold Fields, Mulbagal, Srinivasapur, Bangarpet and Malur.
The environment remains clean only when every individual in the society maintains cleanliness in his/her surroundings, Mr. Thrilokchandra said. Cordial coexistence among people of all faiths is necessary to build a strong country as was dreamt by Mahatma Gandhi. Inculcating patriotism in children is the need of the hour, he added.
Superintendent of Police Rohini Katoch, and Kolar CMC president Mahalakshmi participated in the function.
