Inauspicious moves

The belief that Tulu month ‘Aati’ (or Aashada) is “inauspicious” still haunts the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy. The question came up for shifting its office from Mangaluru City Corporation building at Lalbagh to Tulu Bhawan at Urwa Stores. After a media briefing on Saturday in an informal chat with the media its president M Janaki Brahmavar said she is ready to shift the office during ‘Aati’ which starts from July 16. But some of the members of the academy are not in favour of it. Many Tulu speaking people still believed that ‘Aati’ is not good to start new projects, house warming, office shifting and such celebrating events. As Tuluvas still believed in it the academy will have to respect people’s sentiments. The president said that she took charge as president on Saturday though some say it is inauspicious.
