Gram panchayat member, kin beaten up in K.R. Pet

Political rivalry said to be reason for attack

A gang of at least six persons allegedly assaulted Rukmangada, a member of the gram panchayat, and his family members at Chowdenahalli in K.R. Pet taluk of Mandya district on Sunday morning.

Mr. Rukmangada suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Mysuru after first aid at the government hospital at K.R. Pet, the Kikkeri police said.

However, Mr. Rukmangada’s brother Srishaila and son Harish Rukmangada were treated at a local hospital.

Anne Gowda, Manje Gowda, Jayaram, Jagadish, Shive Gowda and others visited Mr. Rukmangada’s residence and assaulted him and his family members, Mr. Harish reportedly told the police.

Mr. Rukmangada’s family members suspected political rivalry to be reason for the attack.

K.R. Pet taluk panchayat member Lokesh has urged the police to initiate action against the people responsible for the attack.
