Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, who offered puja at Talacauvery and ‘bagina’ at Kabini reservoir and Krishnaraja Sagar on Friday, said bountiful rain had brought relief to the people of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, and described the current situation as “nature’s solution” to the problems faced by the two States over sharing of waters.

The four major dams in the Cauvery basin, including the Krishnaraja Sagar, have reached their full-reservoir level after eight years, bringing much-needed delight to farmers.

The visit to the shrine at Talacauvery was the first by a Chief Minister after 19 years. The last visit was by the late J.H. Patel, who lost power after the visit, which led to the superstitious belief that a visit to the shrine results in loss of power. Mr. Kumaraswamy dismissed such beliefs. “We should not believe coincidence as truth. Superstitions have been created by us,” he said.

Mr. Kumaraswamy had offered ‘bagina’ to the Cauvery at the KRS on July 20, 2007, when he was heading the JD(S)–BJP coalition government.

He said he would also be visiting Tungabhadra, Almatti, and Narayanpur reservoirs, which have also reached their full capacity, to offer ‘bagina’ in the days ahead.
