Vishwanath alias Rajanna Mamani, former MLA from Saundatti, died in Hubballi on Friday. He was 58. He was suffering from cancer of the oesophagus, family sources said.

He had won the Assembly election from Saundatti as an independent, by defeating Congress candidate Subhash Koujalagi, in 2004. He had earlier served as a member of the Saundatti city municipal council.

He is the brother of BJP leader and Saundatti MLA Anand Mamani. Their father Chandrashekar Mamani was an independent MLA in 1994.

His final rites were conducted in Saundatti on Friday evening.
