With an objective to make the State’s farmers aware of new discoveries in the field of horticulture and implement them in their fields for higher yield and better output, the Karnataka State University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot has sent 35 young farmers on a inter-State study tour to Maharashtra. The university, which flagged off the bus carrying the youth here on Wednesday, started its five-day journey to visit various research stations in Maharashtra to study.
“The objective is not only to make them aware of new technologies, but primarily to tell them the importance of integrated farming which is the best way out today for the farmers to earn higher profit within the limited resources,” said A.B. Patil, Director of Extension and Training of the University.
He said that of month-long training, the farmers have already undergone 25 days training at the university, while rest of the five days would be spent in learning the developments taken place in horticulture field in other States. Mr. Patil, who is also the acting Registrar of the university, told The Hindu that the farmers belong to four districts; Gadag, Haveri, Koppal and Dharwad.
