Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G. Parameshwara has said that the Education Department must take steps to shut down unauthorised schools in the State.

Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, he said that he has discussed the issue with Primary and Secondary Education Minister Kimmane Ratnakar.

“I have suggested to Mr. Kimmane to shut down all unauthorised schools, as they are issuing unrecognised certificates to students after collecting huge fees. At the same time, these students should be shifted to nearby recognised schools after obtaining permission from their parents,” he said.

Expressing concern over the rising number of rape cases in the State, Dr. Parameshwara described it as unfortunate and appealed to the Opposition to not politicise the issue.

He said instead of criticising the government, the Opposition should cooperate with the government in arresting the culprits.

The KPCC chief termed the statement made by Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Council K.S. Eshwarappa with regard to rape cases as “irresponsible”.

“No civilised society will endorse or accept such derogatory remarks,” he said.

Dr. Parameshwara said he had directed Congress MLA Ivan D’Souza to tender a public apology for speaking in the same fashion as that of Mr. Eshwarappa.
