The district administration has announced dry days ahead of the local body elections in the district on Friday and Saturday.
In a press release issued here, Deputy Commissioner Rajendra Cholan said that the dry days would be in force throughout the district barring the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation limits and Rayanal Agrahara and Timmasagar village jurisdictions of Hubballi taluk.
The liquor ban would be imposed in the district following instructions from the Under Secretary of the Karnataka State Election Commission.
Even senior police officers in the district had favoured a ban on liquor during elections and the district administration was convinced about the need to impose the ban to ensure smooth conduct of the polls in the district, Mr. Cholan added.
The ban on the sale and consumption of liquor would be in force in the district from 7 a.m. on Friday to Saturday midnight.
Accordingly, all Indian Made Liquor selling shops, beer bars and liquor depots should remained closed on Friday and Saturday.
