The signboard with Jokatte railway station written on it has reportedly been removed by people seeking name change.

A few residents of Pejawar and surrounding areas in north Mangaluru allegedly removed the name board of Jokatte railway station on Sunday, demanding that the station be named after their village.

According to Railway officials, about 20 to 25 people approached the Jokatte station master on Sunday morning demanding that the station be named Pejawar or at least Jokatte-Pejawar. The station master reportedly told the group to approach higher officials of the Railways with a proper representation.

Later, the group allegedly tore the vinyl sheet with Jokatte on the name board before leaving the station.

The Railway Protection Force personnel were deployed at the station to prevent further vandalism. However, no complaint was registered either with the Government Railway Police or the RPF as the identity of the people was not ascertained.

Southern Railway commissioned Jokatte railway station last February with all required facilities. The station is located in Jokatte area of Thokur village, while Pejawar is an adjacent village.
