Six dacoits struck at a secluded house at Veni Veerapur village on the outskirts of the city on Tuesday, assaulted two senior citizens and decamped with gold ornaments weighing around 750 gm and Rs. 8 lakh in cash.

Sanjay Sahay, Inspector-General of Police (Eastern Range), who visited the spot, told presspersons that the gang assaulted Venkateshappa (67), who was sleeping outside his house.

Sanjeevamma, his wife, who came out of the house on hearing the commotion, was also attacked as she tried to protect her husband. The dacoits entered the house, locked the inmates in a room, ransacked the house and fled with the booty.

They were reportedly speaking in Kannada. The police suspect that some persons who knew the family might be behind it.

Based on a complaint by Ramesh Babu, the Kuditini police have registered a case.
