Crop loss: Govt. begins new survey

Just as farmers were beginning to get compensation for the loss of crops they suffered during July and August this year, they were hit by heavy rain in the third week of October.

For the second time this season, the government has started the survey of crop loss, house collapse, and the loss to public infrastructure.

Officials say the joint survey by Revenue, Agriculture, Horticulture and Sericulture officers will be conducted in 10 days.

A village-wise list of standing crops has been prepared. Survey staff will visit every affected field, depending on sowing data. Each plot will be visited and quantum of loss will be estimated. The process will be completed soon, said ZP CEO K.V. Rajendra.

Teams have been dispatched to conduct house collapse survey. Separate estimates will be prepared by officers of the Education, the Panchayat Raj Engineering and the Public Works Department, and HESCOM, he said.

The floods of August have damaged over 2.2 lakh hectares of crops in the district, affecting around 2 lakh farm families.
