Champa to preside over 83rd All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Mysuru

Writer Chandrashekara Patil will preside over the three-day 83rd Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Mysuru from this November 24.

The executive committee of Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) which met here on Monday unanimously selected him as the president of the sammelana, according to the president of the Parishat Manu Baligar.

Addressing presspersons after the meeting he said that in addition to Mr. Patil members of the committee had proposed the names of writers Veena Shanteshwara, Sara Aboobakkar, Latha Rajashekar and N.R. Nayak to chair the sammelana. Finally the committee selected Mr. Patil who was formerly a president of the Parishat.

Mr. Patil, popularly called as Champa, is the foremost voices of the Bandaya Movement. He had also served as chairman of Kannada Development Authority. He had returned the State government’s highest literary honour Pampa Award protesting against the killing of scholar M.M. Kalburgi two years ago.

Mr. Baligar said that the committee opposed any move of the Union government to constitute the Cauvery Management Board. The KSP felt that it would be detrimental to the interest of farmers of the Cauvery belt in the State.
