Hassan district unit of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions on Monday took out a rally here in protest against the policies of the Union government regarding labour laws and land acquisition and the rising prices of essential commodities.
The rally began at N.R. Circle and culminated on the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where they staged a dharna.
Allegation
The protesters alleged that the Union government was taking decisions that were favourable to the corporate sector.
Under the pretext of helping businessmen, the government was trying to bring in labour law reforms, which would penalise the working class.
The government should fix the minimum wages at at least Rs. 15,000 a month, considering the steep increase in the prices of essential commodities.
Land acquisition laws
The protesters also criticised the Union government for the controversial amendment to land acquisition laws. The ordinance would allow the government to take away farmers’ land without their consent, the protesters alleged.
President of the CITU district unit V. Sukumar, general secretary Dharmesh and other leaders were present.
