Central team’s partial visit criticised

The farmers in Bangarpet and Kolar expressed dissatisfaction over the Central Study Team not visiting these taluks for assessing the crop-loss due to recent rain and hail storm.

The Team comprising of Central Water Commission Director Panakj Tyagi, Food Corporation of India official D.V. Vijaykumar and Deputy Adviser to Neeti Ayog, Manish Chowdhary visited a couple of villages in Srinivasapur taluk on June 9 to assess the loss.

Mango, papaya, tomato and other crops on hundreds of acre land was damaged in Bangarpet taluk. However, not visiting these taluks by the Central team created fear among the farmer as to the relief.

“The Central team should have visited all the taluks where damage has occurred”, Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha District convener K. Srinivasa Gowda said.

However, the revenue authorities said there is no need to panic. “The Deputy Commissioner has written to the Government to sanction Rs. 20 crore to distribute compensation to farmers in the district,” Bangarpet tahasildar D.S. Vijay said.
