Members of the district committee of the Karnataka State Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) Non-permanent Workers’ Union staged a protest here on Monday seeking reinstatement of 20 contract workers whose services had been terminated.

The union also drew attention to the plight of nearly 200 temporary workers who had been employed for several years and yet had been denied minimum wages, ID card, pay slip and holiday payments. The union members assembled outside the BSNL general manager’s office at Jayalakshmipuram and urged the authorities to reinstate the 20 workers and provide full wages and other benefits as per law.

Warning

District president of the union N.K. Balaji Rao wanted payment of wages before the fifth of each month. He warned that if their demands were not met, the memorandum submitted to the authorities on Monday should be treated as strike notice.
