The district administration launched a boat service to the marooned Neelakantarayanagaddi island on the Krishna basin near Kakkera village in Hunsagi taluk of Yadgir district on Friday and supplied medicines.
Two residents, Lakshman and Hanumath, who came to the mainland by swimming across the Krishna to purchase medicines were sent back to the island in the boat.
Medicines supplied
A team of Revenue, Fire and Emergency Services and Police personnel led by Suresh Ankalagi, tahasildar of Surpur, supplied medicines and other household items to the residents of the island.
The boat was brought from Ballari on Friday when another boat, which was brought from Raichur, was unable to move across the heavily flooded Krishna on Thursday. Suresh Ankalagi, Surpur tahsildar, said that boat service will be resumed on Wednesday as the resident wanted to purchase groceries and other items in a weekly market in Kakkera on that day.
