A BJP delegation, led by Union Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, petitioned Governor Vajubhai Vala on Friday, urging him to direct the State police to book Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy for sedition.

Mr. Kumaraswamy had, on Thursday, called upon the people to “revolt” against the BJP for allegedly destabilising the government.

The BJP leaders said the Chief Minister had openly urged people to “wage war.” Soon after his call, Congress and JD(S) workers had “barged into the residence of B.S. Yeddyurappa with the intent to attack him,” the petition said.

N. Ravi Kumar, general secretary of BJP, Karnataka, said the Governor told them that he would consult legal experts on the issue and take appropriate action. The delegation also met DG&IGP Neelamani N. Raju and submitted the same petition, demanding that the police book a suo motu case against the CM.

The party also held over 80 Statewide protests, including in Bengaluru, where former Deputy Chief Minister R. Ashok led the protest. He said it was “highly irresponsible” of Mr. Kumaraswamy, holding the post of Chief Minister, to call for an open revolt which could lead to law and order problems.

JD(S) objection

Meanwhile, the JD(S) demanded the resignation of Mr. Sadananda Gowda for accompanying l uring their meeting with Governor Vala. “It is unbecoming of a Union Minister to be part of such a delegation,” said T.A. Saravana, MLC.
