Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs, led by Leader of the Opposition B.S. Yeddyurappa, on Thursday petitioned Governor Vajubhai R. Vala on the attack on the residence of party MLA for Hassan Preetham Gowda allegedly by JD(S) workers, and appealed to him to provide adequate security for the MLA.
They alleged in the petition that the government and the Assembly had completely failed to provide security to the legislator’s family.
Expressing concern that other MLAs of the party may also face a similar situation, the BJP appealed to the Governor to tell the government to ensure that no one is allowed to take law into their own hands.
Mr. Yeddyurappa, in the petition, said BJP members were not allowed to raise the issue in the Assembly. He alleged that the police had not allowed the BJP worker, who was injured by stone-pelting at Mr. Preetham Gowda’s house, to record his statement in a fair manner. They had forced him to sign a statement, which had been prepared by them, he claimed.
He also alleged that the police had booked cases against some of the BJP workers who had gathered near the house to provide protection to Mr. Gowda.
