The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has elected U. Basavaraj as the new State secretary of the party, removing G.V. Sriram Reddy from the post.
According to sources in the party, Mr. Reddy has been removed from all elected positions. A decision to relieve him was taken at the party’s central committee meeting recently. Mr. Reddy was in his second term as CPI(M) State secretary. He has represented the party in the Legislative Assembly twice. It is learnt that senior party leaders communicated the decision to Mr. Reddy after inquiring into allegations of “misconduct and violations of organisational principles”.
When The Hindu contacted him, Mr. Reddy said he did not wish to comment. The CPI(M) Karnataka State Committee met on December 18 and unanimously elected Mr. Basavaraj as the new State secretary.
