The High Court of Karnataka on Friday ordered issue of notice to the State government on a petition seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into a case of cheating registered in Mysuru city against Ambidant Marketing Pvt. Ltd.
Justice B. Veerappa passed the order on a petition filed by Nafees Pasha and 19 others, residents of Bengaluru and Mysuru. The petitioners pointed out that a complaint was presented to Mysuru city police against Ambidant and its management for cheating crores of rupees collected from investors but the police had refused to accept the complaint.
Following this, a complaint was lodged before a magistrate court in Mysuru, which had directed Udayagiri police station to register a first information report (FIR) and conduct the investigation.
Pointing out that those managing Ambidant are highly influential with political connections, the petitioners said they cannot expect fair and speedy probe by the Mysuru city police as they had initially refused to accept the complaint.
‘Do not detain’
In another case, the High Court directed the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Bengaluru city police not to detain and take any precipitative action against businessman Vijay Tata till January 10, 2019 in connection with the case registered against Ambidant in Bengaluru, while asking Vijay to deposit 50% of the ₹4.71 crore by next working day, and the remaining amount within four weeks.
The court also directed Vijay to respond to the CCB’s notice, cooperate with the investigation, and tender his statement whenever he is called upon by the investigating agency. The CCB had claimed that there were certain transactions between Vijay and Ambidant and asked him to deposit the amount with the magistrate court.
