The alumni of St. Mary’s High School celebrated Teachers’ Day in a meaningful way here on Saturday.
They arranged a function on Trinity College campus and celebrated the 70th birthday of retired mathematics teacher Premratnam Karakat and felicitated him.
Around 70 people who studied at the school between 1973 and 2000 participated.
They said it was a special way of saying “thank you” to their teacher who was known for his strong academic qualities.
He also remained connected to his students and their parents by forging an emotional bond.
Some students travelled to the city to attend the celebration and show respect to their beloved “Premu sir.”
Nostalgic
The event turned out to be nostalgic for the teacher and his students, when they started sharing memories with each other.
Mr. Karakat was present at the function along with his wife and two sons and another retired Hindi teacher R.Y. Kori.
Mr. Karakat thanked all the students for making his birthday memorable. He said, “I feel happy on this day because the students have made me feel young again by bringing back memories. My blessings will always be with you.”
The teacher played harmonica, which has been his hobby, said the event organisers Bharat Porwal and Mahavir Upadhaya.
