The Atalji Janasnehi Kendra at Kalamandir premises in Tilakwadi under Belagavi South Assembly Constituency in the city has transformed into a centre of harassment and exploitation of the public instead of rendering services expeditiously and efficiently, said the former Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Abhay Patil.

Mr. Patil, who rushed to the centre following repeated complaints, said that the staff at the kendra were unnecessarily harassing the public.

He said they insisted that the students seeking caste and income certificates need to be acknowledged by the notary and also demanded bond papers to issue the document.

On personally ascertaining the matter, Mr. Patil sought the immediate attention of Tahsildar Preetam Naslapur, who also rushed to the centre. Mr. Patil said the staff was hand in glove with a notary to extract money from gullible students against the rules and demanded that the Tahsildar takes appropriate action against them.

He said though there was necessity for a bond/stamp paper and acknowledgment from a notary, the staff at the Kendra had joined hands with the notary to loot the students.

The functioning of the Kendra at Kalamandir was in sharp contrast with the objective behind the government setting up Nemmadi Kendra, renamed after the former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The centre was expected to provide prompt services to the public but some had converted it into a money minting facility, he said.
