Officials of Krishna Bhagya Jal Nigam Limited (KBJNL) are in a flurry of activity — after all, it is Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s first visit to Bijapur district after taking over the reins of the administration this year.

The Chief Minister is visiting Alamatti dam on Tuesday to offer “bagina” to the Krishna. He will be accompanied by Major and Medium Irrigation and District in-charge Minister M.B. Patil, Minister for IT/BT S.R. Patil, Minister of State for Women and Child Welfare Umashree and other legislators/MPs of both Bijapur and Bagalkot districts.

According to KBJNL officials, the water-level in the dam reached 104.368 tmcft against the maximum of 123.081 tmcft.

KBJNL sources said that the inflow was at a rate of 2,024,45 cusecs on Monday and the outflow 2,024,45 cusecs.

The officials said that the storage of water has been increased for the Chief Minister’s visit. On Saturday, the dam had 99.17 tmcft of water and storage was increased to 104 tmcft on Monday.

Preparations for “bagina” were on full swing with several folk troupes being invited to the event to lend it a traditional touch.

Deputy Commissioner Shivayogi Kalasad and KBJNL officials visited the place where “bagina” would be offered and made security arrangements.
