The Kakti police have arrested four of the five accused in the alleged rape of a medical student on a hillock between Kakti and Muttyanatti villages under the Kakti police station limits on Wednesday.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (L&O) G. Radhika, the accused have been identified as Sanju alias Baba Sidappa Daddi, 24; Suresh alias Chacha Bharamappa Belagavi, 24; Sunil alias Yallapasya Lagamanna Rajakatti alias Dommagola, 21, all three residents of Maruti Galli in Muttyanatti; and Mahesh Balappa Shivannagol, 23, of Managutti Ambedkar galli, Hukkeri.
The search for the fifth accused is on.
Two teams
Ms. Radhika said the accused were subjected to medical examination and then produced before the court, which remanded them in police custody for four days for further investigation. Two teams were formed immediately after the complaint was registered by the victim, and they traced the accused at different locations.
Cases have been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) 2012, while a case under Section 307 of the IPC had also been registered against Sanju, who is accused number one in the FIR.
