Two special teams of Sindhanur Rural police have nabbed 11 persons for stealing a lorry laden with split pulses and seized three trucks, a car and the foodgrains, worth around Rs. 10 lakh, on Monday

The accused were identified as Nanjundaiah, Jagadish, Ravikumar, Vinay S. and Dayashankar, all from Chikkabanavar near Bengaluru, and Manjunath (Bengaluru), Ganesh (Devalapur in Hosakote taluk), Girish K (Jalahalli, Bengaluru), Krishnamurthy (Hasiruhalli, Bengaluru), Ramesh H.R. (Bengaluru) and Ramesh Babau (Yeshwatpur, Bengaluru).

As per the information provided by the police, the lorry loaded with split pulses was heading to a village near Shivamogga from Kalaburagi when it was attacked by the accused at Budihal camp in Sindhanur taluk early on February 2.

The accused allegedly assaulted the truck driver before escaping with the lorry. A case was registered with Sindhanur Rural police.

According to the police, Nanjundaiah, one of the accused, who was in the transport business, had taken some loans from local moneylenders in Bengaluru.

He ganged up with other accused to rob a toor dal-laden lorry to make quick money for repaying his debts. As per the plan, he sent Ravikumar, his relative, to Kalaburagi on February 1 to identify the toor-laden lorry heading towards Bengaluru.

When the accused located the lorry, they followed it and found the truck driver, heavily drunk, sleeping in the lorry.

They attacked him and escaped with the lorry. They removed the number plate and abandoned the vehicle in Manvi after shifting the pulses into another vehicle.
