Vibha Swaminathan of Mallya Aditi International School, Bengaluru and Dewang Kumar Agarwal of La Martiniere Boys, Kolkata have become the first students to score a perfect 100% in the Indian School Certificate (ISC) examinations.

The pass percentage for ISC, which is the Class 12 examination of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), was 96.52%, marginally higher than the previous year. Overall, 86,713 students attempted the examination.

Declaring the 2019 results on Tuesday, the CISCE also said the pass percentage for the 1.96 lakh students who attempted its Class 10 or Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) examination was 98.54%.

The joint toppers were Juhi Rupesh Kajaria of Mumbai and Manhar Bansal of Muktsar, Punjab, who both scored 99.6%.

The results are available at cisce.org.

Second chance for unsuccessful candidates

For the first time, CISCE is introducing compartmental examinations this year, allowing unsuccessful candidates at both the ICSE and ISC levels a second chance at clearing their papers in the same year, rather than waiting an additional year.

Students who meet the criteria for compartmental examinations will have a statement on their marksheets declaring them eligible, said Gerry Arathoon, chief executive of the CISCE. Schools can register eligible candidates from June 24 to 30. The compartmental examinations will be held on July 15,16 and 17 and the results will be declared on August 5.

Girls outshone boys in both ICSE and ISC examinations. The western region had the best performance in India in the ICSE examinations, with a pass percentage of 99.76%, although students from schools outside the country had a perfect 100% pass percentage.

For the ISC examinations, schools abroad had a pass percentage of 99.69%, followed by the southern region, where 98.91% of students passed the exam.
