"A doctor is made a scapegoat for the infrastructural lapse and government failure," said the All India Institute of Medical Sciences’ (AIIMS) Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) in written statement released on Monday following the sacking of Dr. Kafeel Ahmed, HOD Pediatric Department and Encephalitis Ward, BRD Medical College Hospital, Gorakhpur.
Stating that the move is disheartening the RDA said: "We doctors are devoid of a personal and family life and give our 100% to patient care and while doing this we are not only saving lives but are also saving incompetent government and their gross ignorance towards public health.’’
The Association has asked as to who should be held responsible if oxygen, gloves, surgical instruments, basic medicines are not available in the hospital?
“Indians are still poor and most can’t afford costly medicines. The only hope for them are government hospitals but if the government fails to provide basic infrastructure here, who is responsible?’’ asked the group.
“Doctors and patients share a very pious relationship. We request politicians not to spoil this relationship for hiding their incompetency. You are incompetent, you know you are incompetent, making doctors your scapegoat will prove that you are incompetent. If you have any self respect, then please resign from your office and give this chair to someone responsible who knows the value of hard work and human live,’’ noted AIIMS, RDA president Dr. Harjit Singh Bhatti.
