Confusion over DU VC’s resignation

Confusion remained over the resignation of the Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Singh hours after the university media coordinator Malay Neerav confirmed that he had resigned.

University officials told the media persons waiting outside Mr Singh’s house that they were trying to convince him not to resign.

Social activist Madhur Kishwar made a surprise visit to the V-C's residence even though she is not directly connected to the university in any way. On coming out of his residence, she declared: "He has not resigned. It is just a rumour, the University Grants Commission committee that is formed is biased and is full of Leftists."

Later, the Dean Students' Welfare J.M. Khurana and School of Open Learning Director C.S.Dubey arrived with some more officials. "We are trying to convince him not to resign," said Mr. Khurana.

Sangit Ragi, Deputy Dean Academics, on emerging from the V-C's house a little later said: "He has not yet resigned."

Supreme Court lawyer Surat Singh, a friend of Dinesh Singh, said the VC , who had gone to meet the Union Human Resource Development Smriti Irani, was made to wait for one-and-a-half hours without an appointment.

Later Mr. Dubey came out and said that the V-C was sitting quietly inside the house and not talking to anyone.

Malay Neerav could not be reached for further clarifications.
