The Yogi Vemana University (YVU) in Kadapa, will host the Andhra Pradesh Science Congress on the theme 'Integrating science and society for global sustainability' from November 9 to 11.

The congress, to be organised in association with the Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences (APAS), aims at facilitating interaction among scientists from various disciplines, besides popularising the field among teachers and students.

About 2,000 scientists, academicians and researchers from national laboratories, and industry practitioners, research scholars and students are expected to attend the event.

“Scientific papers will be presented over a period of three days in four parallel sessions in mathematics, information and technology, engineering, space, earth, physical, atmospheric, chemical, medical and pharmaceutical sciences,” Vice-Chancellor Attipalli Ramachandra Reddy told The Hindu .

Children’s event

The congress will also have sessions on nanotechnology and biotechnology, apart from providing a platform to young scientists and researchers for interaction with scholars.

As part of the main event, the Children's Science Congress will have 500 school students and 100 teachers with experiments and exhibits.

While a national advisory committee was formed with Dr. Reddy and APAS President D. Raghunadha Rao as chief patrons and 72 eminent scientists as members, the state organising committee is comprised of APAS honorary Secretary M.V. Basaveswara Rao, co-chairman YVU Registrar K.Chandraiah and professors K. Krishna Reddy and M. Ramakrishna Reddy as the organising secretaries.

Beautification

YVU is beautifying its campus for the prestigious event. Every State university is required to contribute ₹2 lakh from its development fund for the congress.

“We are also applying to national scientific institutions and departments for additional support”, said Dr. Reddy.

The inaugural event will be held on a ground. There are three seminar halls on the campus, and with the completion of the arts block building, three more air-conditioned halls will be available for the event.
