Trade union workers took out a rally from Ratham Centre to Lenin Centre as part of a two-day general strike on Monday. The rally culminated in a street side public meeting wherein the speakers stressed on the need to stop privatisation. They raised slogans against the ‘anti-worker, anti-people’ policies of the Centre.
Central trade unions, — except the pro-government BMS — participated in the first day of the two-day general strike.
The demand charter includes stopping privatisation measures and scrapping the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP), increased allocation for MGNREGS, and extension of employment guarantee scheme to urban areas.
Scrapping of the four Labour Codes and the Essential Defence Services Act (EDSA), and cancelling the New Pension Scheme (NPS) and restoration of the old scheme; increasing minimum pension under the Employees’ Pension Scheme are some of the other demands.
