Claiming that he was not present when the road was laid past midnight on Friday, Telugu Desam Party legislator Chintamaneni Prabhakar on Saturday said it was his brother who monitored the work. He said he had to take up the work of laying the road through the bird sanctuary as no minister has responded to his requests for such a work.

“We did not disturb the birds. We only added a gravel lane to strengthen the existing road that is being used by local people to reach Kaikaluru. If taking up of repair work on a road is a violation of wildlife laws, the government should demolish the buildings that are there within the sanctuary,” Mr. Prabhakar told The Hindu .

Mr. Prabhakar claimed that he discussed the need of ‘repairs’ to the road within the sanctuary with higher officials and wildlife authorities but there was no response.

“I encouraged the villagers of Komatilanka to fill the existing 1 km road with gravel,” he said. The MLA for Denduluru constituency was silent when asked why he took it upon himself to execute his work in Kaikaluru constituency.
