Two killed, four injured as tanker collides with car

A businessman Nasu Venkat Reddy, 48, and his niece Sushmitha Reddy, 15, of Hyderabad died instantly and four others of the family sustained severe injuries when their car was hit by an oil tanker bound for Chennai near Thammarajupalle in Panyam mandal in Kurnool district on Monday.

Venkat Reddy’s wife Sridevi, 45, his daughters N. Varsha Reddy, 16 and N. Swetha Reddy, 15 and niece N. Supriya Reddy, 15, were severely injured and were rushed to Kurnool general hospital for treatment, Panyam Circle Inspector B. Parthasarathi Reddy said.

Venkat Reddy, belonging to Gattuvaripalle in Rajampet mandal in Kadapa district, is presently residing at Allwyn Colony at Hyderabad. They had attended a marriage at Rajampet in Kadapa district and were returning to Hyderabad when the mishap took place on Monday, Mr. Parthasarathi Reddy said.

The deceased Sushmitha Reddy was studying SSC in Pallavi model school at Alwal in Secunderabad, while the injured Swetha Reddy is studying SSC and Varsha Reddy ninth standard in Chaitanya Techno School at Kukatpally, Mr. Parthasarathi Reddy said.

Panyam police took the tanker driver Varadan Suresh of Vellore district in Tamil Nadu into custody and registered a case, the Circle Inspector said.

The bodies were shifted to the Government hospital at Nandyal for post-mortem.
