The Rural Police have arrested two persons accused of murdering two forest beat officers in the reserve forest area of Bollapalli mandal near Vinukonda.

Superintendent of Police, Guntur Rural, K. Narayan Naik, said that M. Tulasi Naik, 26, and P. Nataraj, 20, were charged under various sections with killing B. Lazarus, Forest Beat Officer, Naidupalem, and Bade Sabeb, contract forest beat officer, at Nehru Nagar Thanda on the morning of April 9 when the latter tried to stop them from illegally ferrying forest wood in an auto-rickshaw.

“The duo confessed that they have been illegally ferrying wood for coal plants near Vinukonda. Even as the forest personnel began searching the auto-rickshaw, they took out an axe and attacked the officers. Later, they snatched the mobile phones and destroyed the SIM cards,” the SP said.

DSP, Narsaraopet, K. Nageswara Rao, said that the accused tried to destroy evidence and the police, with the help of locals, nabbed them after a manhunt.
