TDP taunts TRS

February 21, 2012 11:43 am | Updated 11:43 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Telugu Desam on Monday has asked Telangana Rashtra Samiti whether its win in the coming by-elections in six Assembly constituencies would ensure formation of separate Telangana.

At a press conference, N. Narsi Reddy, president of the Telugu Nadu Students' Federation recalled that the TRS had forced by-elections earlier and won in 12 seats in the name of Telangana but nothing happened. This was despite people ensuring a thumping win for TRS candidates while those of other parties lost their deposits.

All these by-elections so far have only facilitated adding few more MLAs to the strength of TRS in the Assembly. This would perhaps be useful for TRS to strike a deal with other parties and help them win MLC elections in future as was the case earlier, he said. The anxiety of TRS to win these six seats has to be seen in this context and not for getting Telangana, he added.

He expressed surprise at TRS not speaking a word against BJP though the latter has decided to contest in the by-elections even while being part of Telangana Joint Action Committee. In contrast, the TRS has problems if TDP contests or stays away from by-elections.

Poser to TRS

Warangal Staff Reporter writes: The Telangana Telugu Desam Forum convener Errabelli Dayakar Rao has dared the TRS to boycott the by-elections to bring pressure on the Central government. Only separate Telangana State would now prove the credentials of the TRS, which claimed to be not worried about elections, he said.

Speaking to newsmen at Sangem mandal headquarters in the district on Monday, he said if the TRS leadership was sincere in its intentions on statehood issue, it should respond to the call by the TDP and stay away from contesting in the by-polls.

He claimed that the TDP was willing to abstain from contesting in the by-elections, provided the TRS and other parties come forward. “Let the TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao make an announcement about it,” Mr. Dayakar Rao posed.

He went on to add that by going to polls in the region neither the TRS nor the TDP would not have anything to gain politically and the same with the Congress. “By winning the polls now, the TRS and TDP will not come to power, by losing the polls the Congress will not lose the power” he pointed out.

The TDP leader, who hit at the TRS leadership said that the party was only trying to improve its strength in the State Assembly and thus wants to bargain with the Congress leadership in earning financial benefits and others.

Several times in the past the people in the region have voted for TRS and the party has used its MLAs and MPs to strike a deal with the Congress in getting favours. Referring at the Sakala Janula Samme he said whole Telangana took part in the historic strike but Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao traded it to gain irrigation contracts.

“People should think before voting to TRS in the by-elections. Their vote will be sold for the benefit of Congress and TRS as well,” Mr. Dayakar Rao cautioned.
