Legal professionals stand out prominently for their contributions in winning Independence for the nation. The most prominent among them from AP was none other than Tanguturi Prakasam, who set the direction for the first linguistic State of Andhra in the country as its first Chief Minister.

But the descendants of Prakasam have no inclination to enter politics or practise law like the statesman, who earned name and fame as a barrister before quitting the lucrative career to don the role of journalist to further the freedom movement.

As boundaries blur in the era of globalisation, great grandsons of the legal luminary, whose death anniversary falls on Wednesday, prefer a career in computer industry.

“I am proud of my great grandfather, a politician par excellence. But I see a great future in the bustling IT industry,” says his great grandson Tanguturi Saikranth in a conversation with The Hindu .

“I am looking for scholarship from a leading university in the USA to pursue M.S,” adds 21-year-old who has just completed B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering. Inspiration for Saikranth came from his two cousins, T. Naresh and T. Shanthi Priay, who got placements in a leading software major in Hyderabad.

Their grandmother Annapurnama raised them narrating the glorious events associated with their great grandfather including the bearing of chest before a police personnel during the visit of the Simon Commission to win the epithet ‘Andhra Kesari’ (the Lion of Andhra), Saikranth adds.

His another great grandson Tanguturi Prakash, who has completed B.Com with computer applications, says “I want to pursue M.B.A to improve my employability.”

‘Vamsa Vruksham’ (The genealogy tree) was released ahead of the statesman’s 58th death anniversary by his grandson Tanguturi Gopalakrishna here for one and all to draw inspiration to build Navya Andhra Pradesh.

Mr. Gopalakrishna, a junior assistant in the Commercial Taxes Department here, points out that the State was now in a similar situation when it was carved out of Madras Presidency in 1953 before its merger with Hyderabad State in 1956 to form Andhra Pradesh.

“Let us resolve to contribute our mite to build Navya Andhra under the leadership of visionary Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and by taking inspiration from Prakasam Pantulu,” he adds.
