Sending a message: Police releasing posters cautioning against bull races and rooster fights in rural side at Siddampalle village in Chittoor district on Saturday.

Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil on Saturday directed the police personnel at all mandal headquarters and at the field level to keep a watch on bull races and rooster fights during Sankranti festivities and prevent any form of activity which could lead to untoward happenings.

The SP was addressing the police personnel from Chittoor, Puttur, Madanapalle and Palamaner sub-divisions at the annual crime meeting.

He said in spite of the police surveillance, some vested interests were organising rooster fights and violent versions of bull races. The intelligence network should be alert and take preventive action by arresting the violators.

Steps were needed on a war-footing to clear the cases under investigation, and solve the missing person cases in their respective jurisdictions. Basing on the data of the previous years, the police should strive to minimise road mishaps and reduce crime rate in the district, he said.
